Same happened to me too. After cleaning the ear buds etc. I tried to reset the device without success. I used headset with PC for a while by adjusting balance to middle but it did not sound right. Today I thought that headset will go back to dealer for warranty right after final check that ear buds are clean. This time I used proper light and magnifying glasses. I did not see anything special in ear buds but there was some difference between right and left side plugs. Plug is like a sealed tube where speaker is on bottom of closed end and in other end, ear side, there is thin film on top of hole to tube, obviously protecting anything to go into tube. Film is glued to tube with some fairly flexible adhesive and that was the difference – on well working side it stayed in its recess firmly but in other side it moved when I cleared the surface of the film with cotton swab. I finally removed the film from the tube and it seemed that there was glue also at centre of film. Removed that, pressed film back to tube and tested the device. It was almost hard to believe that device actually started working properly! My analysis is that glue on those films is somehow getting more flexible on time (my device is roughly one year old) and then it for some reason is flows to middle of the film.. or something.
