After I downloaded the Xperia Companion installer from sonymobile.com, it would not install. Error message was 0x80070643c. It looks for a file, serviceinstaller.msi on an Xperia Companion "Installation CD-ROM #1", which I do not have. I'm running Windows 10.0.16299. All Windows 10 updates are installed. After clicking "cancel", I get the message that the old version could not be removed. (I don't have an old version installed).

After restart open Album > settings > find and fix problem and wait until process is completed. You're now good to go! Delete anything you want. Kudos! (Message #12 on Page 2) The above worked for me. When I checked my Ext. SD in a PC, there were two files, one video and one screenshot were found to be damaged and could not be deleted/copied. I went on to repair these errors on the PC. Maybe this had originally been the cause of the problem for all photos? After inserting the SD card again into my Xperial Z5C and clearing the data of the media storage app, and restarting, the album app was hanging, looking for photos, then I went to Album App > Settings > Find and fix problems and I got my photos back, and the problem was solved.
