So after I was unable to resolve the issue myself, I brought the phone to a local retailer. They sent it in and today, exactly one week later, I received a completely new Xperia Z5 with the latest update (nougat) pre-installed! They told me that the issue was covered by the manufacturer's warranty. All in all im surprised how smooth everything went. So to everyone who commented here, you should definitely try to do the same. YMMV, though.

Hi, after a week of my phone playing up more and more it now seems bricked after trying the software repair, it just keeps rebooting or fades to black screen after a few seconds. How can I attempt to roll back firmware please ?

Same here, my z5 has started giving bootloop issues the day after Naugat update. The forums are full of people with these issues after Naugat update.
Sony please help.
