Request advice about Pre-actions to avoid self-cracking screen of new Z3 Compact

Hello,
I almost bought Z3 compact,
but by accident, I checked many reviews that were talking about self-cracking issues of back and front screen, and it's not one person problem but many,
I want to give me advice about,
What can I do to prevent that from happening?
and Why does this happen ?
And Has Sony announced or discussed this problem, or not?

Especially, I bought my phone from outside Egypt, so no warranty for imported phones in my country + expensive spare parts + the warranty itself does not include this case, as most of users said.
Note: I already sent a message to Sony Support Center and they replied ONLY with details of authorized service centers and Terms and Conditions of phone Warranty. (No real answer)
Kind regards,
Thanks,

@Mo_Al

The vast majority of users that post here have questions or issues, so you won't find an objective take on phone's durability, just like if you check apple, samsung, lg, htc, etc forums, you will find similar posts. With that said, there's no such thing as self-cracking screens, either users dropped their phones, sat on them, hit them, etc but they didn't noticed the crack until later on assuming that when they did hit their phones there was no damage and bam, out of nowhere there's a crack, you can check the posts and some users have uploaded pictures of their "self-cracked" screens, you can see the point of impact on them.

Re: Request advice about Pre-actions to avoid self-cracking screen of new Z3 Compact

My z3 comapct was never dropped, hit, punched, crushed or used roughly in any way. I got it 3 months ago, putting front and back protectors on immediately. Went to bed after using the phone that evening (no drops etc etc), put it on bedside table then responded to an incoming text. Couldn't understand why the screen was completely unresponsive. Tried to turn off phone with side button - no response whatsoever. Realising there was a big problem, I looked more closely at the phone and to my horror saw it was shattered in the bottom right corner. How can that happen without it being dropped or hit? I don't get it! I saw the negative reviews before buying the phone but decided that would never happen to me! lol. Just hoping Sony can see that there are no indentations on the protectors to indicate the phone hasn't been dropped or knocked. Very sad. I loved my phone. Slightly frowning Face

Re: Request advice about Pre-actions to avoid self-cracking screen of new Z3 Compact

The problem with Z3 Compact is that when you crack the screen the digitizer stops also (phone becomes unusuable). With some other phones the phone can be used even if your fingers bleed. I personally am not found of the risk of cutting my fingers with sharp glass.

Self cracking of tempered glass actually does exist but it is very rare phenomena.

More likely is that when you drop the phone that does not have any kind of screen protector you will get a tiny scratch. This scratch can start growing many days, even weeks later.

Take a look at this:

http://www.scratched-glass.net/

The conclusion of the long story:

- z3 compact is a phone like any other.

- no phone tolerates bending, dropping, scratching well.

- whatever phone you will have, USE SCREEN PROTECTOR. even the cheap ones will protect it from scratches.

Re: Request advice about Pre-actions to avoid self-cracking screen of new Z3 Compact

Uliwooly's answer seems a bit biased. Yes, all phones get their screens cracked but THERE IS a fragile screen issue with some z3c, and there is plenty of evidence of this:

As you just read Sony denies it, so there is no way to know if yours will have this issue. It's a matter of luck. Mine didn't have this problem, for instance.

Re: Request advice about Pre-actions to avoid self-cracking screen of new Z3 Compact

Borjaider, some people live in their world of denial and enforce this world to others.

There exist advisors who think that the remedy to each and every problem is resetting your phone. This, of course, is not practical for business class users who simply do not have time for it.

In my opinion, the glass problem is more seen in countries that have hot sun and warm summers, the Li-Ion batteries do not like these temperatures and will turn bad very quickly. The overheated components and bad batteries will swell and a myriad of problems will begin - one of them is glass breaking.

Re: Request advice about Pre-actions to avoid self-cracking screen of new Z3 Compact

I am really not careful person and my phone drops sometimes 2 times in day and nothing happens with it. I can swim, fly or whatever I want. Good phone. Problem is one - software, system updates etc.
