yesterday I finally got my Z2, now I'm a bit worried because I just can record 20 seconds of 4k Videos till it stops the recording because of overheat. My phone get's also really hot while listening to music or surfin in the web. I also tried the safe mode but it also gets really hot. Is there anything I can try? I understand that the phone gets hot but so hot that I almost burned my fingers ... that's a bit too much.
My battery also discharges fast, I lost 12% in 20minutes while the screen was off (after reboot)

I've seen this on other threads, update your phone to the latest update, also if you are syncing a lot of accounts/services it will heat up your phone a lot faster

After the "update" I checked again, while recording 4K it still shuts down at 30 seconds. But the phone generates less heat than before. I checked it with System Monitor which says 44°C maximum. So I guess for 4k recording I just have to wait till Sony releases some updates.
Thank you very much uliwooly

I have sent the phone for diagnosis at my local Sony Service Centre. The test result was given OK, but the problem of the camera overheating still exists. The exact remarks stated on the job service report is "Software Upgrade/Software Reflash, Tested Ok (Compare same model is normal, Phone warm is normal, NTF"
I am so tired of this issue, after all the resetting, reinstallation, testing - from what I see, its basically a unresolvable issue and I just have to live with this. I am really dissapointed by Sony, I give up.

I figured the same issue with my xperia Z2
I got it 5 days ago and went to a zoo with my kids, there I tried to take some pictures but the Cam started to quit duty after a few shots.
The temperature outside was nearly 23 degrees, so I thing it wasnt that hot at that time, but I still got the overheating message!!
I am quite dissapointed about this, especially I moved from HTC One to Sony Xperia.
So far it was a big step backwards.
Sony was used to be better.
Besides that, I also recognized a big failure within the z2.
While driving my new Volvo xc90 I tried to use the Bluetooth phone connection.
It connects to the phone but after a lil while the phone gets disconnected for some reason.
If i hit connect the phone again it works for a few mins again ;(
The HTC One hat never ever such an issue!

I agree. I just owned my Z2 a few days ago and i was having this issue without any background apps running. I have not even tried the 4K video but just normal photo capturing. And yet SONY advertised "The world’s best camera and camcorder in a waterproof smartphone*. Does that mean it is only best when it is underwater? Only when water as a cooling medium is available?
After reading these posts i am even more disappointed with SONY as their service centers are just doing the same thing over and over agin when i was having issues with my sony ericsson phone in the past. Just reflash software and ask us to try again. Never before they succeed to eliminate problems from the phone.
Regreted for not picking up galaxy S5 cos i believed SONY products would not be far behind. But a big disappointment now!

got to talk with the Sony support and they recommended using a micro sdxc card to record to and it should help against the problem, which I have a hard time to belive but has anyone tried that?

IF you are recording 4K,I think that you should be careful what micro SDHD card you will get.
