How to manually update, downgrade, root 2014 Xperias

Work in progress

Rooting and flashing "might" void your warranty. I'm not responsible if anything happen to your phone (nothing should go wrong,, if something do go wrong, just repeat the whole process). As always thanks to the XDA forum for their hard work.

Re: How to manually update, downgrade, root 2014 Xperias

  1. Backup everything (SMS, MMS, Contacts, etc)
  2. Backup your current firmware
  3. Go over the steps and check the pictures and/or video before you flash/root
  4. Follow all the steps
  5. If something goes wrong, re-start the whole process
  6. Enjoy

How to create a backup of your original firmware

Here is another guide

you must have PCC

Delete this folder:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db
Windows Vista/7/8: C:\ProgramData\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db

run PCC and repair your phone

go to

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db
Windows Vista/7/8: C:\ProgramData\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db

Copy the files you'll find there to C:\Flashtool\anynameyoulabeled it as

Run FlashTool

Click Advanced > Decrypt Files

Source folder : C:\Flashtool\anynameyoulabeled it as

From Files, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 2 files to Files to convert

Click OK

Wait patiently till it finishes...

From Folder list, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 2 files to Firmware content

If it is ICS, tick the Disable Final Verification Check

13) On Device write the model [ex. Xperia Neo V (MT11i)], on Version write the firmware version and/or the Android version [ex. 4.1.A.0.562 (ICS_4.0.3)], on Branding write the region and your name if you wish.

Click OK

On Device Selection choose the device it is for (ex. MT11i)

Wait very patiently...

When it finishes the .ftf file is located on C:\Flashtool\firmwares

Re: How to manually update, downgrade, root 2014 Xperias

Which programme should I use to root the Z2 4.4.4 ?
There are some fine programs that run just over rooted devices, but rooting my last Xperia T was quite messy and it installed a lot crap with chineese fonts so I didn't understand what thy say. Is there any english language tool, easy to use over Win 7 ?
It would be great if it had 2 options like root and unroot so if something goes wrong I cound get back simply without flashing everything.
