Re: Xperia z glass back cracked on it's own?!

The back screen is made of tempered glass. Glass is still glass. Though under normal direct impact it will not easily cracked, it still hss it weak spot. I had seen report that a whole shower screen shattered without anyone touching. it. Sony should replace the back panel for you.

Re: Xperia z glass back cracked on it's own?!

Sounds like alot of people have the same problem. And I think that its kind of strange that sony tells the customers that the glass and the phone is of such a good quality that its nearly next to un breakable......Sonys own words: Both the front and back panels of Xperia Z are made of durable tempered glass that’s much stronger than conventional glass. Each glass panel also has an anti-shatter film for even greater durability.

It's disappointing to say the least, I'll try calling Sony and see what they say, I can't see O2 being of much help in this scenario.

for what I've read on other threads on the SAME TOPIC, the cost to replace the screen its almost as much as a new phone, perhaps the back panel its cheaper, but if its only $50 to get it done through O2 I would go that way if that was my phone.

lucky you have insurance - the repair bill on these new devices can be quite high, I'd recommend everyone to have insurance

Re: Xperia z glass back cracked on it's own?!

This breakage is not unusual for tempered glass. Wiki has this explaination:

Sony should look into repairing it for you free of charge since it's likely a manufacturing defect.
