Sony removed the feature because it was buggy as on the Xperia XZ. With Android's sleep feature from Marshmallow onwards it has proved impossible for SONY to make a consistently functioning double tap to wake so they have removed it altogether.

Runs flawlessly on my Xperia Z2 which has Marshmallow.
