Auto backlight not smooth

Found two reports on this. Athough I'm considering the compact version, I'm a bit alarmed.

'The auto backlight mode is jittery, though. It flickers up and down rather than doing so smoothly. I’ve found it a bit distracting when reading an article on the train. Go through a tunnel and the Xperia XZ1 looks like it’s having a breakdown. Let’s hope Sony fixes this with an update.'

'Screen auto dim is a bit annoying. It doesn't change as smoothly as the g4 but seems to stutter. This a Sony thing?

Re: Auto backlight not smooth

I'm about to write about this to the local technical support: do the same, so they can request a fix to the development.

I had it too.

Just play a little with the auto brightness (on and off) and the bright level.

Its not flickering anymore and autobright is very smooth.

I think it wasnt well optimized when developed.

And try a reboot after that.

Re: Auto backlight not smooth

Thanks for the hint. I already spoke with support but I will try.

It sounds more like woodo than computer science though.

I hope that Sony will fix it in a more professional way.

Re: Auto backlight not smooth

I tinkered a little with the trick. Dimming down is "skippy", while returning to normal brightness is smooth.

Moreover, if the automatic dim is set to off and you fiddle with brightness manually, transition is smooth. So it is not a sensor problem.

Definitively, Sony has to check the dimming software routine.

If I remind well, Z5c too had this problem when it's OS was fairly new.

But did it fix for you? Mine did fix after playing with it a little for a while.... Badly optimized software I guess..

@Profyler1

No. I've tried some times since this afternoon. I've also rebooted the phone a couple of time but it's like before.

If I move the slider with the finger the dimming is smooth, though.

Re: Auto backlight not smooth

I have the same problem. Has anyone contacted Sony directly about it?
