"Phone Idle" battery drain in 7.0 Nougat

Re: Don't update to Nougat yet

Nougat per sé is quite stable, memory optimized and with a great battery optimization however is true that when connected to WiFi and Bluetooth battery life can be greatly reduced. By simply disabling WiFi I can get about one day of battery life, if I enable WiFi on every device I have with Nougat I get worse battery life.

I guess some drivers are not optimized yet for Nougat but a software update may fix that later.

Re: "Phone Idle" battery drain in 7.0 Nougat

I'm experiencing the same issue!

Xperia XZ with software 39.2.A.0.361 / Nougat with the three top battery consumers phone idle, Android OS and Android System.

At the same time, I noticed the UI has become less responsive, e.g. when opening the app menu, it sometimes takes 2 seconds before any app icon is shown and a lot more of small delays that shouldn't be there in a high-end phone. It perfectly looks like there is some background / system task that is not behaving correctly and consuming CPU time, causing both the UI delays and the battery drain. My impression: The Nougat build was rolled out prematurely without performing the necessary customization and optimization for the device.

Apologies about the overly large screenshot. My phone went from 80% to 0 overnight. I had stamina mode turned on I think. I also went out two days ago and my phone went from 60% to 0 within 4 hours (I left it at home with stamina mode on). I use my SD card heavily with as many apps as possible transfered onto it. During the day my battery life seems great. The drain has only been this bad since 7.0. I'm going to test removing my SD card tonight.

Changed my mind, I'm going to try without stamina mode instead first

UPDATE: so I haven't been using stamina mode at all anymore and my battery life is much better. Only went down 60-58% last night compared to the whole lot on the previous 2 occasions....

Re: "Phone Idle" battery drain in 7.0 Nougat

I've tried the suggested solution which is deleting Android files on SD card, removing it from the phone, clearing cache and putting the SD card back again.

Battery stats are looking same so far (really high for phone-idle and Android OS) but I can assure you that battery life is way better.

And we still haven't gotten an official statement from Sony Mobile regarding this issue. I wish they would just tell us why this is happening, how to fix it or let us know they're working on a bug fix.
