Re: XZP camera has serious distortion issue

Don't really know what should I call that.

As the distortion of Xperia is abnormal.

Not a bug for sure. Maybe some kind of a curse...

Hmm, we should not ask for a solution from Sony devs then. We need a witch doctor here, or an Arch.. Bishop.

Re: XZP camera has serious distortion issue

Today I saw really a lot of comments saying that this distortion is somehow normal. Maybe it really is? Anyway, there is a software tool to deal with this distortion and it should be at hand in phones with that type of optics.

No. It's not normal at all.

Sony have a fix, press the Steady Shot button in video and the distortion is gone. They just don't seem interested in applying the fix to the stills camera.

Re: XZP camera has serious distortion issue

Steady Shot reduces the resolution to the maximum of 8MP because only a part of a matrix is used to capture a stabilized picture. I think we don't need a 8mp photo from an above-700-dollar phone.

photos taken by wide angle lens having barrel distortions not such waves in the photo, just google it, the answer is pretty clear.

Re: XZP camera has serious distortion issue

@Bonelol

That would be true if the camera is only composed of the wide angle lens, but there are other correction lenses added to compensate for the barrel distortion.

What some users do is tilting their phones while capturing a scene or getting too close to the object, forcing the light path through the edges of the lenses complex which magnifies the distortion effect.

It's still there even if you take all the precautions, but hardly noticeable.
