Re: When Can XZ Premium Use Full 4K Resolution?

Depends if the phone is even compatible with Dji's sdk, Xperia XZ wasn't so couldn't be used with dji go, litchi etc.

I'll be very interested in your product when it's ready, was looking at the goggles for my p4p, an app + cheaper headset will be very successful, good luck.

our app is on sale already (we will add further features over time) -> please check out http://fpv.whaale.com for a documentation or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.logit.droneflight for direct playstore link.

it also works with the XPeria Z5 Premium in 4K mode - but we cannot enable 4K from within the app; only via developer tools -> not very user friendly :-)

at the moment we are recommending 2K phones like the Galaxy S7 or LG devices to our customers because they offer the best displays so far -> http://fpv.whaale.com#274

thx for the hint.

that's why we are asking in the Sony forum - we already bought the Z5 premium for testing purposes and were disappointed about the 4K limitations.

Before spending another 700+$ on the XZ Premium, we would ask for support of 4K mode...

I think it's been there a while, the storefront units I played on two weeks ago had 4k hdr youtube running fine.

I'm one of the developers of the "CAVU FPV" app.

Basically it allows to fly DJI drones using an Android smartphone and cheap VR goggles.

See http://fpv.whaale.com for details.

If it would be possible to use 4k resolution for our app on the XZ devices, this would allow double the resolution of the dji goggles = 1920*2160 pixels per eye = GREAT!

@WHAALE-FPV: that sounds like an exciting use-case! If you use video player it could work out of the box, but please come back and tell us how it turned out. Slightly smiling Face

The usage this user is talking about, is a live feed from a drones camera, so wouldn't be possible to use video player as the video comes in via the connected controller and then is displayed in their app using the Dji sdk.

If they actually get it working it'll be another serious selling point as no vr unit for drones will run 4k at the time.

It's very interesting (well for me cuz I'm a drone user lol)

As @viridis already wrote, we cannot use video player (the dji SDK renders to an Android "SurfaceTexture"/google cardboard).

We would need some kind of mechanism that allows us to change resolution to 4K at runtime.

This is possible using the "adb shell / wm size" command (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/changing-resolution-default-to-2k-root-t3282319), but this cannot be done on the Android device directly (only with rooted devices)...

Maybe Sony has some functionality/API to do this?!?

Re: When Can XZ Premium Use Full 4K Resolution?

Just to update you @WHAALE-FPV

The dji go app does work on XZ Premium, which is obviously the first hurdle passed.

Ok, I hear you. Yes, that shell command does the trick but I realize that is not a proper sollution for an app developer. I'm not aware of any open API's for this but I have sent a few mails in the right direction. I'll get back to you if I learn something new.

Re: When Can XZ Premium Use Full 4K Resolution?

@Bjorn_O

What does an app have to do now, in order to "see" and activate the 4k mode switch?

Is it controlled by Sony end or app end?
