Just piping in to say I have the same issue. Thought it was just my device but apparently not - I can barely hear people on the other end when I make phone calls.

Strange, on my phone is normal behaviour, volume ok on speakers, earphones and calls.
To loud on alarms though :smileysmileywink:

It's so easy to say that people should try a software repair. But given that that means a full factory reset, it's usually the last thing anyone wants to do.

This all situation is incredible, a lot of people have been affected for this issue. I been searching and trying all the things Sony told me to do... It doesn't do anything. Clearly Sony doesn't care about costumers... I regret for buying a Sony smartphone ... Never again ...

Again, try a software repair.
My Xperia X is functioning all the way and I didn't have any problems in 25 months.
Without software repair:
So your volume settings are OK.
Did you check your ringtone too?
Did you clear cache and data in the phone app?

the only known way to fix your problem is to send it to sony. it is a hardware issue. i sent my xperia and got back brand new. it happend to me twice. two times i had this problem and evry time it was hardware issue.
