Are you referring to the camera flash? if you are, you will need a third party notification app to do so.

Hi @Callum11, welcome to our forum!

Do you want the display to turn on when you receive a text message? This is not a standard function in the Xperia L2 or in the pre-installed Messaging application, but you can always take a look in the Google Play store and see if there is any other messaging application that has a setting for this.
