XPERIA 1 ISSUES.

Would've been nice had they fixed the crashing, freezing, overheating, rotational orientation sensors too. Does anybody else's XPERIA 1 have something "rattling" or knocking around in the upper right side of phones internals? I started tapping the phone while listening to be a song and heard it. Specifically when I tap tap tap the upper most top right corner of the phone be it the edge, side s, front or back. Something sounds VERY loose inside. They should've also fixed the camera issue that says it won't work under 15%. That's stupid. If I want to drain my battery to take a picture I should have that choice like on any other modern device.

Great phone otherwise.

I've had this phone since July 15th.  I've done a hard reset the phone a few times because it froze.    It won't change the orientation of the screen way too often when going from vertical to horizontal and back.    The camera told me it couldn't function fully since I had less than 15% power.   It also told me after a few seconds of pulling it out of my pocket to take pictures that the screen was overheating.  I just pulled it out to use on a 100degrees

sunny day and to top things off I can barely be see the screen in daylight.  BARELY!

 What gives Sony?

Pleaee reply  with non generic auto responses.

Re: XPERIA 1 ISSUES.

The rattling you hear on your phone is the cameras Optical Image Stabilisation system. All Xperia 1's will rattle, including @RottenFoxBreath's phone. Gently shake your phone now and you can hear the rattle, then open the camera app. Your phone should rattle considerably less now the OIS is active. It is perfectly normal and is not a problem Sony needs to address.

I've had my Xperia 1 since the beginning of June and I've suffered zero crashes so I expect it could be a third party app on your phone causing the crash. I do restart my phone every week as advised by the message that pops up on my screen occasionally so that probably helps. My phone only overheated once when using the camera to record video and that was in 40° C heat so I wasn't really surprised.

Re: XPERIA 1 ISSUES.

Rattling - Camera optics, dynamic vibration motor..?

Crashing - nope.

Overheating - nope.

Rotational sensors (I assume you mean not working) - again, nope.

My phones locked up once or twice, and it was Retroarch that caused it.

The camera "issue" has been there for previous models, and was designed for the "normals" who might want to snap pics or videos, that the images, or videos might be corrupted, or corrupt the SD cards, if the battery dies.

Other 3rd party camera apps can still work, but hey, lets not thank Sony for looking out for us, and adding a potential safety feature.

Also, if you ever check the in the "Battery" section of your settings, you might find a setting or two.

As to taking the phone out of your pocket on a 100° day, it might have been hot in your pocket, you know with no air flow, hot skin, cramped pocket, hot day..just saying...

And for the screen in daylight, try adaptive brightness, then youll see the screen in the sun.

A quick search would have showed that information.

It always mystifies me when people don't at least try things, on their phones, or delve into settings, you aren't going to break it, and 99% of the time you can undo settings, or features you check out

Re: XPERIA 1 ISSUES.

Thanks for the reply.  Your attitude wasn't appreciated though.      This is my third flagship from the XPERIA line, starting with the Z1.  XPERIA is all that I will but now.   I've delved into all the settings and have done as much research on here and elsewhere which is what lead to my post/inquiry.

So what it if it was in my pocket.   That's where a phone goes when not in use or at home.       I understand that there's body heat taking place but come on, it was the first time I pulled the phone out to use the camera and it gave me a warning within the few  first seconds of opening the camera.       That's not to say that it was my first time using it that day as I had completed two quick texts earlier and checked the time once or twice.

I'll look into the adaptive brightness and give it a shot.     It was my understanding that it yellows the screen to aide in nighttime viewing with resting the eyes to help your brain wind down to sleep better.     In effect, reducing the overall brightness.         I'll give it a go, however.  There are plenty of reviews on YouTube specifically mentioning the screen bring sub par whilst outdoors on sunny days and not one of them mentioned a work around.

The phone has crashed primarily during PUBG play though it has happened during non gaming usage too.

The screen rotational orientation thing works fine, most of the time.

Re: XPERIA 1 ISSUES.

As for the cameras: The safety thing for the prevention of corrupt files had not been brought to my attention before today.  I had this issue with the Z1 ever so long ago and was never made aware of the "safety" issue.

The rattling could be coming from the lense or the useless dynamic vibration and if so then why isn't yours doing it?  Anybody else want to chime in, SONY????

In addition,  please lose the attitude because I came for help and to help others.    Though your informative reply is appreciated, the attitude isn't.

Re: XPERIA 1 ISSUES.

OK as I solved your brightness issue, in the post above:

Let us address the rest as best I can.

The 15% safety feature is a good thing as it prevents data loss- should power suddenly be lost. I have had that feature since the Z5 Premium. It is a good thing as most safety features run at a 80% level, that is to say at 20% power level the safety feature will cut in.

Given the above I think you can alter the settings under power, battery however Im not sure as I have always liked that feature and never bothered to mess with it.

100 degree heat day? I presume you mean Farenheight and not Celsius? THe latter would surely kill all life on earth :p

So thats a 37.7 degree C day, some users have had similar issues of over heating (mine didnt and I took mine to a 49 degrees Celcius DUBAI on holiday and in the middle of the desert and I had no issues.

Have you upgraded to the latest firmware? If it is not out in your area-try another camera app until your area gets the update.

Overheating has never been an issue with me, just the 4k stabilisation issue Slightly frowning Face

Final note:

As for Foxy breath "attitude" he doesnt have one really buddy he is just rather blunt-like myself with him being a Scottish gentleman and myself being a traditional Yorkshireman-we say it as we see it.

Re: XPERIA 1 ISSUES.

JohnHC,

as explained the noise reduced to almost silent upon opening the camera.   Thanks for giving me (and potentially others) the relief I was looking for with the rattling.

I restart my phone almost daily as a long time habit of good nature so I've never seen the message you referenced that would appear every few days.   I'll check the third party apps and delete them if I find them to be bothersome to others as well.

I've not been outside with the phone but that one day so for it to have heated up on the first time I was really looking forward to seeing how well the camera worked for myself on its first attempt is rather discouraging.

I live in Texas.  June-August it's 100degrees + for days and weeks on end.   I'm just bummed that I gotta babysit my phone's temp for a third of the year.

Thanks for the knowledge fella!

Cheers

The other suggestion I've given to others regarding overheating is to make sure no other apps are running in the background that could be CPU intensive, as that will accelerate heating.
