X1 for mobile - Is it hardware or software?

I wonder if X1 for mobile is a hardware chip like Bravia OLED TVs or just a new name of X-reality for mobile.Slightly smiling Face

Re: X1 for mobile - Is it hardware or software?

I think that's an algorithm, a.k.a. software.

Processor X1 for TV is is a hardware chip to balance; Color (Triluminus Display), Clarity (X-Reality Engine), Contrast (X-tended Dynamic Range). Which all three are, I guess, are algorithms, therefore the chip powers the speed in which the algorithms are processed for 4K in whatever display size.

Regarding the phone:

"Sony uses algorithms originally designed for its Bravia TVs, though it does not disclose whether the phone has a special display co-processor, or just does some software tuning for Snapdragon 855’s display engine. Sony says that the Xperia X1 reproduces colors so accurately that that one of its movie studios uses the smartphone to review its work on set, which simplifies production." -https://www.anandtech.com/show/14032/sony-xperia-1-long-21-by-9

In conclusion, Sony did not disclose if the smartphone Xperia X1 has a X1 chip, a variant, or the Snapdragon does the processing work.

Re: X1 for mobile - Is it hardware or software?

I think it may be just a software trick like 5-axis for mobile camera is.

In alpha cameras 5-axis stabilization is a real hardware sokution tgat always works. In xperias 5-axis is just a software trick that is very limited since it works only in 1080p 30fps recording and only under special conditions when not moving the phone... So in 99% of time 5-axis is just useless trick on Xperias that may look good for some on marketing slides. In real life useless.

I do hope it's not the same for Bionz X  X1 for mobile etc.

Regarding 5-axis stabilization

The First 5-Axis Stabilization Phone, the Xperia XZ.

However, it upsets me the last few mid-range devices don't get the full gyroscope, just a basic 3-axis. Which comes with a lot of problems; rotating, inaccurate compass, map directions, now realizing I get no camera and video stabilization features!

It´s probably algorithms, just lie Bravia Engine was!
