Re: New Android 5.0, Lollipop firmware update - [UPDATED]

Hi guys, just checking for a few minutes, but this is enough for me, tonight I've checked my service and repairs center in LJ for some updates or some progress, it's been a week now since they got it and nothing much to add here, except that it's still under repair.

When they finish, I'll finally know why this phone of mine kicked the bucket and why we weren't told from Google that something from ancient history could repeat itself in the present. But I'm not amused anymore by them since they have a mind of their own.

As for the Marshmallow update coming soon to all remaining but one Z-series phone, the sooner they get it, the better.

Lollipop has a history of proven instabilities as has Kitkat on some phones, sad but true, some manufacturers don't really care about durability or stability of their products when they hit the global market, they're just numbers that must be sold. Welcome to extreme corporative capitalism or our worst nightmare.

See ya.

Re: New Android 5.0, Lollipop firmware update - [UPDATED]

Great news, today I've received a confirmation that my Sony device has been sucessfully repaired and updated as requested, the phone is waiting to be picked up at one of the receiving stations near me, the culprit was a defective motherboard that wasn't properly sealed and tested when it was shipped out from the factory, I don't intend to launch a full scale investigation, I'm very happy with how things turned out in the end. But I do have one strict recommandation for Sony worldwide, increase the ammount of inspections before sending products such as XPERIA phones (all sizes and variants) and provide more information on whether what you see in commercials and promotional campaigns, is actually what you get on the market. To simplify things, be more prudent in the future, personnel should increase patience and act more responsibly. That's all.

Re: New Android 5.0, Lollipop firmware update - [UPDATED]

Hi there, thanks to the specialists in LJ, no more Z3 Compact hickups, everything works perfectly after the repair and replacement inside, I knew they would get things done properly. Still waiting for Marshmallow, but I'm not one of those impatient customers, good things must take time I guess, so does Marshmallow for XPERIA, Japan has it already, now it's time to be distributed globally if they want more happy faces worldwide.

And for the record, still don't want any confrontation with those negligent people in the factory, that's forgotten in forgiven for now, for the future, we shall see.

Bye.

Re: New Android 5.0, Lollipop firmware update - [UPDATED]

When I look at information about the phone and software updates . There's Amazon Shopping , ready to be installed . Why? Phone is Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and Lollipop 5.1 firmware. Why Amazon Shopping app is there in update center when I check software updates? There should be the latest firmware not an app.

Re: New Android 5.0, Lollipop firmware update - [UPDATED]

Hi, I see that I'm not the only one having to deal with that Amazon Shopping app, at the moment, I've set the parameters in Sony Update Center not to auto update stuff, not even via Wi-Fi, thus making the notice dissapearing for now.

I'm always on track when it comes to new software updates, but for now, no new software build is available.

My guess is only one, that somehow third-party company partners of some sort of other manufacturers detect through some Google app algorithm detect your data, even when you restrict basic traffic data usage to its minimum quantity.

By default apps send huge ammounts of data, if some restrictions aren't set to prevent this from happening.

My apps intially sent over 15 MB of background data to those annoying third-parties every month, but since my modifications, background data noise dropped significantly. My advice would be to do the same with your phone and see if that gets you rid-off that nasty notice for Amazon Shopping app when you check for software updates, also untick the selection for autoupdates in Sony Update Center, dissallowing update processes even for when on Wi-Fi.

On my XPERIA Z3 Compact that works well. If somehow some apps do get installed anyway despite your modifications, uninstall them again, I did and they never came back. It's a small gesture, but I'm happy to share it.

There's one disadvantage though, it seems unrelated sometimes, but Facebook users without knowing can blindly set their mobile phone numbers to be included in their new security screening protocols, thus allowing third parties and partners of Facebook's to collect data without protecting basic user rights. Now it's all too clear why Facebook is under constant scrootiny from different countries and doesn't suprise us at all these days anymore. I share you concern and your problem.

When you hear however that the new software build for Marshmallow is finally available for your phone, change the parameters for Sony Update Center back to its previous state, allowing for OTA update. Hope that helped, if you have any questions, please let me know, I'm just a user like anyone else here, but informed well.
