I stand corrected but the latest post

http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2015/03/16/starting-our-android-5-0-lollipop-rollout-xperia-z3-xperia-z3...

"We’re starting our Android 5.0, Lollipop upgrade from today for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

You’ll see the upgrade hit first devices in the Nordics and Baltics, continuing to further markets, for more Xperia Z Series products, starting in around two weeks time* – we’ll share the latest here, as it happens.

Re: Android 5.0 When are we getting Lollipop? Which Xperias will be updated? etc

Beadyeye, you don't even know that Google Android is an open source programme? If you want to get an OS that is not customizable, go back to Apple's iOS or Microsoft Windows. Android phones are not for you.

Forbes.Paul Monckton on Android Lollipop 5.0 and Camera L

"Raw files are strictly for those who want to edit and perfect their photos after taking them. By sidestepping almost all of the camera’s image processing they tend to look very dull and unfinished until edited. More importantly you can’t even view a raw image file without specialised software.

Raw files are also much bigger than JPEGs. DNG files produced by L Camera on the Nexus 5 weigh in at 15.8MB each as compared to around 2.7MB per JPEG.

In some situations, processing raw image actually puts you at a disadvantage. When your phone or camera creates a JPEG it can factor in all sorts of camera-related information which may not be available to you when processing a DNG file.

The most common example is that the phone’s own camera app will know all about the attached lens and how it performs. Lens corrections are often performed in-camera, such straightening out unintentionally curved lines and compensating for darkening in the corners – both of which happen to some degree on all lenses, but considerably more so on small, low-cost ones such as those found in phones.

Without this lens information profile, you will have to perform such corrections manually and therefore usually with less accuracy. Professional raw conversion programs overcome this limitation by using installable profiles for each individual lens and camera, but you’re at the mercy of the developers who may or may not decide to release a profile for your particular phone.

Raw processing on a phone also requires a lot more work from app developers as they will now be fully responsible for converting raw data into JPEGS where, until now, they have been using “pre-cooked” images to which lens correction, noise reduction and colour correction have already been applied."

If you want to shoot RAW, go buy a real camera. Sony alpha 7 Mark 2 is an excellent camera.

Bearings, thanks for the information I was already aware of. Just because this feature wouldn't be used by everyone doesn't mean it's not important. Some people do need it. Some people would just like to play around with it. Some will never touch it in their life. But if Sony really wants to progress their cameras in their smart phones, and build that link with their reputation for cameras and photography, this feature is a must. HTC supports it as well and they don't even make cameras.
