Smartwatch 3 WIFI ?

Hi,

I read in many review during the IFA 2014 that SWR50 has the WIFI hardware to get notification update with the smartphone.

Is it true ? Will it be enabled in the future ?

 Thanks

Re: Smartwatch 3 WIFI ?

Never heard of that and also don't belief into it. The watch communicates via Bluetooth 4.0 with the smartphone as every watch running Android Wear does.

Re: Smartwatch 3 WIFI ?

No one knows what this functionality is for, it seems. There is no way in the phone to turn it off and on, just as there is no way to turn GPS on and off - neither function can currently be used. It feels like we are in a big beta (or even alpha) test group for this phone, with very limited functionality - far less than when the SW2 was released

Re: Smartwatch 3 WIFI ?

From my understanding the WIFI, like the GPS, is accessible through the AndroidWear SDK but no apps have been developed to use them yet.

In other words, "watch this space", the SmartWatch3 is a bit more future proof that the competition! So until there are new Wear releases from other manufacturers that also have wifi there are few reasons for apps to be developed to use Wifi.

Supply vs demand basically.

Re: Smartwatch 3 WIFI ?

It would be great if the smart watch could use wifi instead of Bluetooth when in range of wifi as it is less battery draining than bluetooth I think.
