ID3 tags are not read by (Sony) Music and Play Music

The build in music player app "Music" does not show the ID3 tag infos of mp3s. Also Google Play Music does not show the ID3 data. The songs have correct ID3 data, verified using VLC, which shows ID3 data on same phone. So there must be a different way in reating the data? How to fiy reading of ID3 tags by Sony Music (and Google Music)?

Have you edited the ID3 tags manually?

Re: ID3 tags are not read by (Sony) Music and Play Music

Sometimes, but mostly it is downloaded from Amazon... On my old Xperia S the tags are shown for all songs. And even on another Z3C the tags are shown. And the most strange app is „Star Music Tag Editor“: In the overview of all Songs „null | null“ is displayed. But if I open a song all tags are displayed correct. – So this app is using two different ways of reading the tags? – And one of it is not working? – Maybe MediaMetadataRetriever is not working?

Hi @voomdoon,

This sounds strange. Do you download the songs directly to your phone or do you transfer them from a PC? If so, how do you transfer them from the PC to the phone?

Could you try clearing data for the media storage app, Settings > Apps > All > Media storage > Clear data, and then restart your phone. This will force your phone to scan the memory for any media files and index them again.

Once you can see your media files in the phone again, try transferring some music files to the phone again and check if the info in the ID3 tags are shown then.

Keep me posted. Slightly smiling Face

Seems like the "Music" app doesn't recognize ID3v2 tags, at least when ID3v1 is not present.
