DSEE HX turns off when Music started from lock screen and MDR-NC31EM?

Hi.

I found strange but repeatable behavior of Music App. It happened for weeks but today I realised what steps are necessary to reproduce this behavior.

The problem: When I hit play from the lock screen (without unlocking the phone) after about 2 - 3 seconds there is a sudden change of audio quality (it goes much worse, like someone is putting high pass filter at 14 kHz or something like this). It sounds like some DSP software crashed or being unloaded from audio processor. To recover from this I need to unlock screen. Stop music, kill Music app (by swiping it off the recent apps list), turn the Music on again, go into settings, turn off/on DSEE HX again.

This doesn't happen when music is started from unlocked phone.

Turning Noise Cancellation on/off during playback (after audio degradation happens) doesn't change anything.

Stamina mode is off.

Anyone else experienced such problem?

Xperia Z3 Compact, Lollipop 5.1.1, 23.4.A.1.232, D5803

Music App: 9.1.3.A.0.0

Headphones: MDR-NC31EM

Steps to reproduce:

1) Connect headphones

2) Unlock phone

3) Start Music app

4) Make sure DSEE HX is ON

5) Start music (any 48kHz, 16-bit stereo mp3/aac file, 320/256 kbps vbr in my case)

6) Listen for some time

7) Pause music in louder part of song (it is hard to notice audio change on low volume audio parts)

8) Lock screen using button

9) Wait at least 30 seconds

10) Wake up screen using lock button (do not unlock screen)

11) Hit play on lock screen widget

12) Few seconds after music starts should be audible loss in quality

Best regards,
Sergio PL

Re: DSEE HX turns off when Music started from lock screen and MDR-NC31EM?

Yes! I use a podcast app and notice the drop in quality when starting a queued episode in lock screen. Xperia z5 compact.  Won't hold my breath for a fix though.

I am sceptical of this dsee hx feature, To me it sounds like it intentionally degrades the quality when off. It introduces noise artifacts that I have never heard in the audio playing on another device.
