Turning off data when travelling abroad - Sony Ericsson Elm

Hello there,

I'm off on my holiday in a couple of days and, to prevent me accidentally going online and building up a large phone bill, I'd like to disable all data use on my Sony Ericsson Elm. I noticed that under Settings => Connectivity => Internet Settings there's an option for "Allow local conn". Is this what I need to turn of data? Is there any way to disable data and prevent me going online?

Thanks in advance,

Stu.

Re: Turning off data when travelling abroad - Sony Ericsson Elm

One way is to create a dummy data account: Setings--Connectivity--Internet settings--Connect using--Select--Options--Create new--Select PS data--Give it any name and APN--save--select--save.This dummy account will not be able to access the internet and use up data.

As for the Allow local conn, this refers to WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity, so if you're going to use local WiFi networks while travelling abroad, you need to have that switched on (the Yes setting).

Hope this helps.

Re: Turning off data when travelling abroad - Sony Ericsson Elm

Allowing a local connection isn't what you need.

When I'm in the same position, the way I make sure I'm not going to get charged it by removing a letter from my APN.

For example.

My APN for the internet connection is www.internet.com but when I don't want any chance of going online, I'll delete ".com" and that way even if the phone TRIES to connect, it won't.

Hope that helps!

Clearly, I shouldn't leave my window open and go have a snack! Chris is right, as usual

Thanks guys - that's really useful! Now I think about it, that's what I used to do. I'll have to remember to set up a dummy account before I go :-)
