Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to help you with creating accounts using the Sony Email app, using a reliable method to decrease the likelihood of encountering problems in the future.
A brief but holistic approach in all aspects of Email, will hopefully give you a better understanding of the processes involved and help you narrow down the area - or even prevent a problem from happening in the first place.
Before making a post - have a read through this guide - as it will likely have the solution for your problem - and a template is available to copy and paste - should you need any more assistance.

Now that you know a little about the protocols, how many parties do you think are involved?
There's the User, The Device, The Carrier, The Email Provider and... mother nature

If you have a problem with mother nature, will calling your carrier help? What if the user typed in the wrong password? If your internet and email provider has scheduled maintenance where they unplug servers, would changing anything on your device help?

POP - Post Office Protocol
Generally a One Way Transmission. Think of a Post Office Master sending your parcel... once it's left the post office, it's gone (The Lord of the Keep telling the Maester to send a message - if you're a Game of Thrones fan)

SMTP - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
Generally for transmitting things in one direction... Think of this a way for your mail to get to you via Electronic Carrier Pidgeon... (a Raven with the message attached)

IMAP - Internet Message Access Protocol
No longer simple - IMAP can collect a bunch of messages, and deliver at the same time (Too complicated for a raven, a Messenger that can talk to other humans is sent instead, this messenger needs to come back home too)

EAS - Exchange Active Sync
Microsoft Exchange - like IMAP, but there are Calendars and Tasks... an emporium of things.


Why did you need to know this? Depending on what your email account is set up to use, there are different problems for each - but also, now you can see how many parties are involved.
This will help for troubleshooting later on.

To be able to set up your email app and account in the most reliable way - you'll need to enable app passwords!

Let's set up a Google Account https://accounts.google.com and a Microsoft Account https://account.microsoft.com

In your Google Account Administration - you'll need to enable 2-Step Verification

Once 2-Step Verification is active, you will be given a new option to add App Passwords to your account!

Write this password down, as you'll need it to sign in later on and you can keep track of all the apps you have created passwords for!

Let's try an Exchange Account!  This one is tricky to find, because you'll need to click on "More security options" on the Security Basics page!
