It's easy to believe that something 'fixes' the problem, because the actual issue appears and re-appears at random times (they probably aren't random at all, I am just unaware of the source to say for sure). It kind of seems that it's a hardware issue now, because 4 factory resets, using SUS, updating to the latest FW, or anything else that is software-related doesn't work.
I will be sending my phone back to the retailer for repair (hopefully replacement), but I will likely wait until after the holidays, because if I give it now it will probably be given back to me in at least a month and a half. I am afraid that they might 'fix' the issue by doing factory resets, or a complete rom flush, since it's already quite clear that it's a hardware issue. This is another life lesson - people should really put much more effort into researching items before buying them.

I've had auto brightness off since day one, and still encounter this erratic touchscreen behaviour.
The only way I've been able to replicate this issue (although not the case for others with this issue) is when I'm using my Z1 for extended stretches of time, such as browsing, reading, playing games, or after I watch a movie. Most of time when I experience this issue, the phone feels very warm, however I've also experienced this issue a couple of times when the phone was cool.
When the problem does start, it's annoying as heck but thankfully it doesn't occur that frequnetly, at least for me. I have since bought a flip case for my Z1 so will update everyone on whether this helps or not.

Yes, kindly update this thread since issue is still not addressed.. I have tried placing my phone in a flip case or a plastic and still the problem persists..

That is normal since the screen will behave badly if there is water on it.
In our case, screen refuses to register touches when flat on a surface and when in hand especially gaming.
This happens due to prolonged touch on the screen. This also happens even if not. Screen has no dead spots. It just fails to register the touch most of the time.

my bad that i haven't complete my whole post, boss is here just now :b
that's the half part of my post, the other half is-- my z1 also having the same problem as the topic, it click the links/zoom in and out all by itself, but i've found out when the screen is covered by finger print and get warm, the issue is more likely to happen, but after i washed it with some soap it goes back to normal until it gets warm and full of finger print again.

We want a fix for this issue. Sony already gave the Z the camera apps of Z1. I thought it was an exclusive. Now it's time for them to bring bug fixes to Z1
