you can't, Android 2.1 was the last update this phone and Xperia X10 mini/pro, W8 will get

did you checked the link above? either

1) he lied to you

or

2) he is using a custom ROM (Software not released by Sony)

from SONY yes, but you can update to 2.3 using a custom ROM, check the link above
