XPERIA Z3 Calls are not clear to other caller unless external output used!

Hello, ever since I got my Xperia Z3 back from a screen repair. I an constantly being told by other callers that my voice is not clear and sounds like I am using the loudspeaker/hands free. At first I thought it was caused by the repair company and maybe it was reconnected and reassembled incorrectly. It was returned, but still the same when I got it back again. However, if I do switch to external output / hands free, the quality and sound to the other caller greatly improve as if I was making the call in the normal privacy way. It's as if my microphone is working in reverse. for my voice to be clear to the other caller I have to have loudspeaker on. Any suggestions please?

Hi, can you go to settings, calls.
And turn off "background noise suppression"

Thank you for your reply, apologies for late response, I have been away.
I have turned off the background noise suppression. It still very much the same. I tested it on a colleague. He commented that sound quality was improved drastically, once I had switched the external loudspeaker On during the call. I still have the option to once again, send the phone back to where it was repaired, but it means being without the phone for a few days again.
Hopefully the insurance company will give up and replace the handset
