Black bars on TV when using MHL adaptor

Hi, I have those top and bottom black bars when I connect my Z3 Compact to my car head unit Kenwood DDX5901HD which has a 6.1 inch screen.
The screen output size is already set to.100%.
Also, I don't seem to find any way to control color, brightness, and contrast.
Please let me know if there is any way to do as ny of this.
Many thanks.

Re: Black bars on TV when using MHL adaptor

I'm afraid i'm not familiar with that device but i suspect this has to do with the aspect ratio on its display. According to it has a WVGA display (800x480). This is not a 16:9 resolution which the phone uses (phone has 1280x720). So to fill the screen your Kenwood would need to stretch the picture.

Color, brightness and contrast are display settings that you make on the display device (TV, monitor) so you need to check with Kenwood if these can be adjusted.

Re: Black bars on TV when using MHL adaptor

Thanks for the reply.
I understand about the aspect ratio, makes sense.
I asked about colour, contrast, etc. because the unit has those controls, they work for all but not for mhl.
It seems mhl passes through.
I will get in touch with Kenwood.

Thanks again
