Further Android 5/6 device coverage

Sony users worldwide would certainly love to see one of these variants done!

A)

All devices from Xperia E4 to the newest will get an update to Android 6 Marshamllow

B)

Older Sony Xperia devices will get an update to Android 5.1 Lollipop

Please make this reality!

Re: Further Android 5/6 device coverage

That would be great but wont happen, also, older Xperias lack ram and internal storage to run Lollipop and or other updates, plus some phones have reached their EOL.

Re: Further Android 5/6 device coverage

I think E4 and up are able to run at least lollipop.

Re: Further Android 5/6 device coverage

I heard android 6 marshmallow has lower requiments than 5.1, but theres still nothing about our E4.Probably it is, because E4 is a budget model.I and 99% percent of Xperia E4 users, would love to see an android update. We still hope Sony will change their mind and do something. :/

Re: Further Android 5/6 device coverage

It has nothing to do with Marshmallow or requirements but rather with MediaTek, the company that produces the MTK processors which runs E4 and E4g and some c series is not supplying the binaries and drivers needed for phones with low budget SoC-s to be updated. There are few exceptions but this is generally the rule since the earliest days and MediaTek is quite notorious for it.
Basically, whenever you consider buying a phone with MTK SoC you can expect fewer updates and lack of major Android update from start compared to Qualcomm ones. Again, there are few exceptions with Qualcomm also (Xperia E3, Xperia T3...) but most of Qualcomm based Sony devices get at least one major Android update, because Qualcomm supplies the binaries and drivers needed.
