the 8.1 build for X compact (aosp_f5321-userdebug) crashes with the following error:
hardware/qcom/camera/QCamera2/Android.mk: error: camera.msm8952 (SHARED_LIBRARIES android-arm) missing libdualcameraddm (SHARED_LIBRARIES android-arm)
You can set ALLOW_MISSING_DEPENDENCIES=true in your environment if this is intentional, but that may defer real problems until later in the build.
build/core/main.mk:728: error: exiting from previous errors.
I'm using clean build dir with updated build guide.

already put an issue on github for this: https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/bug_tracker/issues/64
Just waiting for an update when the guide is fixed for this.

I fixed the camera HAL and now it will build and work normally
Please note that you need the vendor image for the new kernel branch

What does the new branch mean?
"please note that camera will not work without a vendor released for Android 8.1 4.4_6.4_r1"
The downloads show a 4.4_v07 for the Loire Platform. Is this correct? If not where to find the mentioned vendor image?

you can check here which devices are supported and on which android version
As you can see for each Android version there is a vendor release that matches the Android and kernel version
Example how to read the vendor name:
O_MR0 - Android 8.0
5.7_r1 - kernel branch to be used with the release (https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/kernel/tree/aosp/LA.UM.5.7.r1)
v08 - incremental release number
yoshino - platform name for the vendor release
As you can see the latest public vendor is for android 8.0
