Yeah done that..and keep doing it after every failed attempt.
My Sony account is connected through google, Xperia account, album app, Xperia lounge, Healthmate (Nokia) app and a bunch more with no issues.
I will try to log on to lifelog to see..
Yeah I logged on without issue, it even welcomed me as an older user!

I did it in safe mode, but I have just a couple apps (google apps keep, inbox) installed besides factory apps

Can't imagine what can be the problem you seem to have done everything except a software repair with Xperia Companion (don't know if that will solve the problem but you can have some corrupt file in the app that is not replaced when you make a factory reset). Do you have also enough free memory in your Google account (don't know however if that can be a problem).

Hmmmm, but have it on both phones?
Xz2 is just a week old for me and already factory reset it once...
The reason to reset it was Sony support up shows errors from Google Play Services every time I try to connect 3d app to Google.
How long have you got the 3D app connected to Google ?
I am thinking if something going on with the new privacy changes...
All my other apps are connected long time ago!
Just tried with another Google account and I get same error!...

Last time I logged in was after the update with the 3D Selfie.
Your case is really odd, can't imagine what can be the problem.
Could it be a problem with the Google Play Services app? Have you tried clearing that app cache?

Was it the first time ever you logged in?
I managed to uninstall both Google Play and Services by going on in settings clicking on the app details and deactivated through Google. Then activated.. Updated. Then removed account and connect it again.. No success then did factory reset!
