It was working fine. But from couple of days if I connect my phone to pc with usb cable , PC companion is not detecting the phone when phone is in media transfer mode. Earlier it was perfectly working and I was able to access sd card data from phone and from pc as well at the same time. Also pc companion shows proper details and also shows it is running latest software.
Not all is gone, if i connect with media tranfer mode, it doesn't detect anything. If change it to mass storage mode, it is unmounting from phone and showing as "Phone memory".
I have tried following in mobile
1) settings-> manage apps -> created MTSapp cache
2) rebooted phone "N" number of time and tried connection.
3) removed data from phone (the message pc companion shows there is more data on phone and it will take time). but didn't work even after deleting my music, pics etc...
In my pc:
re-installed everyting pc companion latest version
Nothing worked for media tranfer mode. Even it is not charging battery too when connected to phone.
Is there anything left to test SONY device and software ??? Can anybody please help me in this to work USB CONNECTIVITY.

this problem starts when someone clears data of mtp app or its cache or force closes it
i would suggest if you you don't have much data installed on phone memory then do a factory data reset ( memory card not affected)
if you didn't like the above then see these http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/33653
let me know how it goes

I have tried
1. clearing mtp cache
2. re-install of windows media player
3. re-install of pc companion many times
all of above didn't work. Only in care of mtp cache clear, it works for first time connection. Once removed and reconnect with USB, it stops detecting phone again
Last option I see from above is factory reset or re-install software using update service or some thing.
Can anybody let me know what else I can do???. This issue started all of sudden.
what could be the problem??
I am worring since ICS update is through pc companion and phone is not getting detected.

It is un ethical of saying re-install of windows media player drivers if sony or (sony ericssion ) mobile is not getting detected because of heavy running pc -companion or bad software in SE mobiles.
Windows media player on my laptop working perfectly, in that care how does it effects SE mobile?
Is it microsoft problem as SE mobile is not getting detected as it uses windows media player drivers ?
If somebody confirms from sony or SE, I can ask my fried who works in windows media player project in Hyderabad for MS to take care instead of asking help in sony blogs.

same problem here. this is why started surfing the sony mobile forum. the phone connection problem started after Sony PC Companion updated itself. I have a slow internet connection and I saw that PC Companion updated itself for like half an hour. after the update I connected my phone but PC Companion did not detect it. I have Xperia Neo V.

Yes. There will be some problems if internet speed is not much.
Can you do littele better in this?. Please make downloading of software as sepereate task and install/reinstall/repair or any other operation related to phone as seperate task.
Once phone is detected or user specifies phone directly, pc companion should make ready with all updates downloaded irrespective of phone is connected or not.
Once everything is done, user will just plug it and install/upgrade/repair his/her phone.
Higher bandwidth is still costly in some places. So whenever bandwidth is availabe user will make sure downloads are complete with pc companion. Once local repository is availabe he can just plug-n-play with his mobile.

used update service. still I am unable to detect my phone using pc companion.
all options are tried but one is not getting detected.
My question is how can I do further update on my phone for OS??

repairing from PC Companion or updating with SE update service did not help me. I was still unable to connect to my phone in Media Transfer Mode with gingerbread. I flashed ICS yesterday and haven't seen any issue yet. I think Sony just messed up the latest version of PC Companion and it is only affecting Gingerbread. They have to release a fix.

some suggestions here
first of all , clearing data of MTP app ( and other apps such as mtp extension service app) or force closing it sometimes results in these type of errors
