Maybe drivers, maybe you have not set "USB debugging mode" in phone... For rooting you can also check xda-dvelopers.com : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1

Thank you Rado.
That was really naive of me, in fact I didn't set the debugging modo first...
The first time I tried to do it the laptop tried to install the drivers but obviously wrote me "drivers installaation failed"..
Now I've set the debugging mode but after connecting the phene in the fastboot procedure the connection fails and soon after the smartphone start charging..
The very first time, (and only that time) that I tried (with the debug mode off) the computer did try to install the drivers (failing) but now it is not even trying anymore...
I'm sorry for asking so silly questions..thank you for your help..

Rado you are great!
I did root it in a second thank to u!
Now I just have to find the best rom (kernel) for xperia u.. any suggestion on that? :smileywink:

No problem :smileywink: That's why I posted that link here because that rooting method is really quick&easy. Regarding custom ROM.....it's hard to say what's the best or good or bad. On other phones (HTC Desire Z) I tried for example CyanogenMod 9 but phone gets bootlooped. I also tried some other ROM, but it had design like from year 5 My suggestion is only fine-tuning of current official ICS by installing Titanium Backup Root and through it uninstall all useless apps and ICS parts :smileywink: But if you really want ICS with different look, go to xda-developers.com and in right upper corner find "Xperia U". That will filter only XU-related topics. n section "Xperia U developement" or something like that are threads with custom ROMs from many guys/ But you know - everything is on your own risk...
