SMS Problems in Android 2.3 Update

Hi everyone,

I'm new in SE's Android Forum, and i'm experiencing several difficulties regarding to SMS problems.

First of all, my SE Xperia X10 information are as below:

Model Number: X10i

Android Version 2.3.3

Baseband Version: 2.1.71

Kernel Version: 2.6.29-00054-g5f01537

Build Number: 3.0.1.G.0.75

Okay, so my problem is i can't receive messages instantly. Senders send text messages to me but they all appear to be pending when my phone's signal strength is still at full bar. Few hours or even days later, only then the messages start going through and they all get delivered to me at one go. Previously, before this update, i had no problems at all with SMS sending and receiving. But after the update, i installed GOsms and at first it was flawless too. But later, when the text messages accumulated (Now, it's 4902 text messages in my inbox, started experiencing this problem at 2500+ text messages), i start experiencing sms receiving problems. If the phone doesn't have enough space to store the messages, how come a few days later i can still receive those pending messages? Is it a problem with GOsms or is it just that i have too much SMS in my inbox? Please help, this problem is getting really annoying. And, my phone is also rooted, does that affect anything? But before this, my phone was also rooted and i didn't experience any problems with SMS. For now, that's my problem with SMS and i don't have any difficulties in sending SMS, only problem is in receiving. Thanks in Advance!

Truly,

Sanity92.

Re: SMS Problems in Android 2.3 Update

the higher the number of SMS the Slower your phone will work and the most likely it will stop receiving sms (at least with X10)

just back them all up here is how

make sure you backup everything

Use one of these links to download the

Backup & Restore app

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193802

or

http://www.elita-clan.com/downloads/backup_and_restore_v010935.apk

http://www.elita-clan.com/downloads/backup_and_restore_v010935.apkor
http://www.mediafire.com/?1n07llajeaoo03y

How to install it

You need to

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

download IO File Manager

https://market.android.com/details?id=org.openintents.filemanager&feature=search_result

download the backup & restore app, transfer it to your SD card, use OI file manager to find it -> tap on it -> install it

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

SMS/MMS

if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then

Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result

or your SMS use

"backup & restore SMS"

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result

or for your MMS use "Save MMS"

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.schwimmer.android.mmsextract&feature=search_result

Call Logs

And for call logs this is great

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.yang.android.ansta

Apps

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone

market my library.JPGmarket my library 02.JPGmarket my library 03.JPGmarket my library 04.JPG

My Phone Explorer

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client&hl=en

if you have a lot of sms/mms the backup & restore will take forever or might not backthem up corectly

both apps above Backup SMS +    and    backup & restore SMS are great, this last one it's really fast

Re: SMS Problems in Android 2.3 Update

If you don't want to lose those SMS/MMS/Call log use BACKUP SMS+ it will sync them all to your gmail by contact and date :smileyhappy:

another simpler way to install the Backup & Restore app

download the apk on your computer, send it to yourself through email, make sure you send it to your Gmail

now on your phone

don't forget to mark the Correct & Helpful Answers

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

wait for the email, once  you get the email, open it, and instead of downloading the attachment it will allow you to install it, voila, done
