{GUIDE} How to Install Jelly Bean , ICS ( Ice Cream Sandwich) and Gingerbread on Xperia™ Smartphones, as well as root them

[ Edited ]

Flashing your phone is at your own risk and Sony would be in no way responsible for any damage whatsoever

New Update : Upon request from users, I've created a facebook page where you will get updates ( Only necessary) on whatever happens here, new firmwares, new android versions, new rooting methods etc. GuideToFlashRootXperiaNabeel

To root your phone visit the Rooting Guide

Befor Flashing : If your phone's on the original firmware that came with the mobile then dial *#*#7378423#*#* in phonepad > service info > software info > take a screenshot and keep it for future.

If you would like to backup your current firmware then follow the steps given below.

Install Jelly Bean and Ice Cream Sandwich

  1. Flashtool preparation > Download Flashtool and install it
Got to C:/ drive >flashtool >firmwares >delete everything present and exit

  2. Download Official firmware from the table given in post below.

  3. Placing firmwares in flashtool. Note: only .ftf format files to be placed. If the file is of .rar/.zip then extract it to get .ftf file
    Copy .ftf to C:/>flashtool>firmwares

  4. Flashing
    Run Flashtool>Click on the flashing button>Select flashmode>Ok
On they very left side you'd see the firmware name and version. In the middle the contents of it and on the very right side some options. Mark them as shown below
    15041_bzd.png

Select OK. Now flashtool will prepare files and ask you to connect your phone. Follow the steps.
On devices with no hardware back key, use volume down key while connecting

After flashing's finished, disconnect your phone and restart it.It may take several minutes.

Follow guide on Facebook > GuideToFlashRootXperiaNabeel

Installing Gingerbread / downgrading from ICS / Jelly Bean

The method to flash gingerbread is exactly the same as given above.

Just download the required firmware from the table given in post below.

Re: {GUIDE} Install ICS as well as root Arc S , Ray and Neo V

i've download lt18i .ftf file just to see if flash tool recognise the content, it shows me simlock.ta fila in the content section. I've downloaded the ftf from xda dev. but i think there is something missing. File sizes and installation locations are correct. Now i'm downloading the st18i.ftf file from the link from Nabeel's post. Mirror is too slow.

Re: {GUIDE} Install ICS as well as root Arc S , Ray and Neo V

when u placed lt18 i firmware, it shows just simlock.ta in the contents section ???

this means there is something worng with the flashtool

OKH LISTEN CAREFULLY
uninstall flashtool and reinstall it, and do not apply the update, then just put the firmware in the folder and run flashtool and see what all contents you get , but please don't flash, i am just trying to narrow down the problem, its just for confirmation. :smileyhappy:

Re: {GUIDE} Install ICS as well as root Arc S , Ray and Neo V

Okay, i've uninstall (and deleted the flashtool folder because after uninstallation there was some folders) then reinstalled the 0.6.9.1 and it shows the content as 0.7, only simlock.ta file as a ftf content.
