xperia mini pro - apn not saved

just got my brand new xperia mini pro 2011. one thing I don't get to work: when I configure a apn it does not get saved. The APNs List remain empty.
I tried the following settings:
Name: Sunrise GPRS
from http://mediaserver.digitec.ch/website/mobile/Android_Datenkonfiguration_sunrise.pdf
Then I tried to enter the settings via APNmanager app. But still the APNs list stays empty.
So have no internet over 3G.
Please help. What can I do?
best regards, mario
so you go to settings -> wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> access point names -> press MENU -> add New -> enter all the info -> press MENU -> SAVE ?
yes, I did exactly that. also tried reboot. the APNs I enter get listed in the APNmanager app. But not in the native menu, you mentioned.
I don't know which APN app you are talking about but why don't you just do it in the regular menu?
follow the steps above
go to settings -> sony ericsson -> data download
i have done this also several times,
in the deslay screan coming up saying "could not download settings. retry?
i am retrying but it still can not download.
you will need to have a data plan to download them
if the problem persists just backup everything and then repair it with
Update Service or PCC
I have a data plan. ( from my X10 mini pro)
I have also tried to update softwear (i have the latest softwear) so i tried repair, but it ended up telling me that ther is no softwear avalible.
was that using PCC?
try Update Service
it seems Update Service is down at the moment
exactly the same with my phone:
- APN cannot be saved
- sony ericsson -> data download fails over WLAN
- PC Compagnion says : your phone is up to date
- the download link you provided was for x10 mini pro. But I have the new xperia mini pro. And there is no firmware to download on http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/mobilephones/downloads/xperia-mini-pro?cc=gb&lc=en
try this
the Update Service is the same for all Sony Ericsson
I have now used Update service it is only telling me that i have the latest softwear.
the only thing i have not done is to completly resett the phone, can that help for our problem?
it will say you have the latest software click on install anyway/repair
that's quite odd, how about PCC?
there's another option, using Flashtool
How dose that work?
what dose it do?
Where can we get that?
its a program for your PC that will allow you to install/reinstall/repair your phone
but there I would need a image file for my mini pro with the corners etc. or what image would I use to flash?
you can see the step by step guide here or the the video, yes I'm aware that its for the X10 but its pretty much the same steps
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/19735
that's another option
would it be possible to edit the apns-conf.xml file? would that get active?
I don't know about that sorry
I tried to reset the phone. after reseting everything but the user data, the problem still persisted.
After I tried the reset where everything is gone (factory data reset). the problem was solved. I was able to use the sony ericsson menu "internet settings - download settings for internet and MMS". It configured APNs correct.
But after the next reboot everything was gone again. No APNs there.
I invested now many hours in this phone. I cannot recommend this phone!
why do you have to reboot the phone often?
but again it might be a defective phone
i have the same behaviour,
after factory reset everything works, settings are downloaded and apn(s) are listed in the apn list and so on
after reboot they are gone, and download settings does not work.
also, as said above i cannot manually add apns, after hitting save they are not shown in list
i'd say this is a bug ![]()
Hi, Have a new best guess, what could cause the problem: old sim card.
I do have a 13 year old sim card and have the same problem you just mentioned. I tried with a sim card of my colleague and it worked perfectly. even after 2 reboots. I ordered a new sim card from my provider.
cheers
mario
i got a new sim last week ![]()
-although i suppose it might be an old version, even though it isn't nearly as old as yours... -13 years! a real graybeard of a sim! ![]()
-worth looking into i guess
I was fighting with the same problem on my girlfriend's mini pro (it was an anniversary gift, so I was in a deep s..t) and I did not want to believe what I found as solution. Th APN list was empty using her card, but filled with the correct entries when used other SIMs in the same phone (mine e.g.).First we thought that it should be the extremely old SIM (10+ years) so we acquired a brand new from the provider but it did not help. Then I started to try to find any difference between her SIM and others we tried and worked without the problem, and the only difference I was able to find was THE PIN CODE REQUEST. The only SIM what was set up to request pin code on start was her SIM.
Then I switched PIN request off and rebooted the phone and volia: the APNs are there, can be modified, saved, deleted.
Thank you for this information.
I have now tryed with two new Xperia PRO and had the same problem on bouth, when i now turned of my PIN everything is working fine I can surf and send MMS.
thank you,
I got a new sim card from my provider. and now it works fine.
It could lso be the fact that i have now a pin activated on the simcard.
I am very happy now :-)
Hi, I have the exact same problem all of you had. Where can I switch PIN request off?
Thanks in advance
lp
Hi, i had the same issue. The best way is, go back to the store and tell them what happens. They should know the problem and will change the SIM-Card. The newer SIM-Cards has the APNs for using with the provider directly stored in the card. So, it will fix (solve) your problem and it's free for you! ![]()
This really seems to be a bug in the phone software if PIN protection for the SIM-card is activated. The xperia mini pro is then
unable to properly identify the SIM card. It e.g. cannot even determine the phone number (normally visible in the phone status).
This also seems to break the automatic downloading of internet/mms settings, and manually setting up apns.
THE WORKAROUND:
Disable SIM protection (PIN entry on startup)
...and your xperia mini pro will work like a charm, including internet/mms apn settings download (using a wlan internet connection), manual apn configuration, etc.
Hopefully anyone at Sony Ericsson reads this and fixes this issue in a future release of the phone software...
Hey
Got the same problem, removed pin at startup, then its ok (TDC Denmark)
Try to get a new sim card, but it seems to bee at BUG.
Thanks
hey there, i have the exact same problem on my xperia arc since i updated to the most recent version and i don't have (or never had) PIN security. But i'll try a new simcard to see if it works
I have same problem with xperia mini pro sk17i, firmware 4.0.A.2.335. APN not saved when sim pin is enebled, when sim pin is disabled all is ok
Hi i am having the same problem with the expria arc, put the setting in and they are not saving
does your SIM card has a lock? if it does then it won't save the APN settings
