I  have just been on the phone to SE support and have been told that there  is nothing wrong with the volume on the x10, even though I had to leave  the room to hear the guy as the window is open in my living room.

I  can't hear a thing if there is any background noise at all and there is  also a rattle. I have gone back to the store where I bought the phone,  and have been told "We wont send the phone away for repair as we have  done so many times in the past few months and all have come back from  the repair centre saying that there is nothing wrong with the phone"  this also means that I can't get a refund on the phone even though I  only have it two days and paid just under €500 for it.

So I am stuck with a dud phone like the many thousands of others who seem to be having the same problem.

I  for one will never buy a SE phone again and will make a point of  advising anyone I can to do the same, I have already posted this onto my  facebook as well as Twitter.

In  my opinion SE are well aware of this fault and are in denial as 1) If  they admit it they will have to recall all the phones that have already  been sold, this will cost them millions, 2) The don't want the negative  publicity that will come from admitting the fault as it will put them  even further behind apple's iphone in the market. 3) They really don't  care about theire customers and are happy to take our money for  something that has such an obvious fault.

The rattle suggests  that it is in fact a speaker fault as most speakers only rattle when the  volume is too high and they can't handle it, this means that no software  update is going to fix this problem, this also leads me to thing that I  am right in my opinion (see 1 above) I also believe that if it was  something as simple as a software problem, an update to fix it would  have been released months ago.

Ha... it's the one X10 phone on the planet that works.... or the one user who makes all phone calls in a sound dampened room and never goes outdoors. :-P

Dear SE, please fix these issues asap as these are the basic things a phone should be capable of.

I'm beginning to wonder whether the product had gone through proper testing before it was released.

I had to use a payphone to make a call yesterday as the call volume is so low on the x10, I think that says it all really. I have given up answering the phone when out in public, so I am constantly missing calls and then spending a fortune calling people back when I get to a quiet enough place to actually hear them. What a joke of a phone and what an even bigger joke of a company!!!

Everyone should put a post on theire facebook or twitter telling people to avoide SE phones and also ask your friends to post the same to all of theire friends as well so that others dont get stung like we have. Lets see how long it takes SE to act then, in this day and age it is a big mistake to ignore your customers as they have so much power to tell thousands of your bad customer service and products!

They are making us suffer and ignoring us, so lets make them suffer by telling as many people as we can and asking them to do the same.

A lot of my friends work for carphone warehouse, I cant see any of them recomending this phone to anyone after the stuff I posted about this phone

By the amount of hits this post has had it should be obvious to sony erricson that there is a problem and a large percentage of their cutomers are unhappy. This is not going to go away it would be nice if someone from their admin would post on here an update on progress in addressing this problem.  Are you going to wait until it hits the news and does damage to your company image. This came to a head for me this week when I missed an important call due to this and it cost me a significant amount of money. More than the £450 i paid for this phone. Im not happy and action on this is now or lose customers for ever.

    Hi Guys,

I have learnt the lesson. SE has just hyped us to buy its phone. True, it was all fancy once with so-called ‘high-end’ powered phone. But when you review the top 5 or top 10 or even top 20 phones in the global market, Sony Ericsson does not come in any of these.

So please next time before buying phone, especially SE, wait and get the review before shelling out the money. Remember, this XPERIA phone is of same cost compared to all the leading smart phones.

HTC EVO the leading followed by iPhone 4G. Even Samsung is hitting in the top 10 list like Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Captivate, etc.

SE, known for it picture quality, I feel bad to take shots as every shots that I take gets blurred.

The drawbacks are huge in XPERIA. The most annoying is the Call-Volume. Phone not serving its BASIC FUNCTION.

Last but not least, the design of XPERIA is so cunning that they did not see the future. Today they hung their face and say that ‘I am sorry, XPERIA will not taste Android 3.0 onwards’ as hardware is incompatible. Lookout for HTC and Samsung and Nexus and Motorola, they are shining out in the market.

Where is SE in mobile industry?

Watch out in your next investment. Personal advice – research before investing.

    Hi Everyone,

I realize I've missed responding to this obviously popular thread, so I wanted to chime in with our voice.

For those that haven't already read in other related threads: We are reading and acting on these concerns about low volume and otherwise. I realize the timing of actions is not what you are expecting, but we are working.

Remember, if you have specific questions or comments, starting a new thread is always the best way to get an answer to your question from us, or other users.

Thank you all for your patience.

    Thanks for saying something Jeff-SEAnswers.

I think the issue is not really related to timing at all... it's all about how SE is responding.  We're told by SE support that there's absolutely nothing wrong with the volume levels.... or they tell me to try turning the volume up using the rocker on the side of the phone.  Then they tell us our other alternative is to go to a service center.  The service center also does nothing, stating there is no problem.  Then, we get several firmware updates that either do nothing to fix the problem, or end up breaking things that were fixed in a previous release - eg WiFi cycling off and on on R2BA026.

On top of that, none of these firmware updates brings the phone up to the current Andorid release...  we're trailing far behind the competing products like HTC, and are facing apps in  the Marketplace we cannot install.

This is probably when we end up here or in blogs etc.. voicing our frustration and annoyance.

This is really a big issue... it's not like Timescape being slow or not functioning, which we could live with... this is a core functionality of the phone that simply doesn't work correctly.  The frustration increases with each firmware release that does little to nothing to address the problem.  The phone is more than capable of producing high volume levels - look at how loud you can turn up music played through the earbuds - I don't play most music at top volume (I usually listen to streaming internet radio)... it's too loud... yet take a phone call using those same earbuds and you have to struggle to hear the caller.  It's even worse when you try to use the handset without earbuds or BlueTooth.

It's difficult to be patient when we get the brush-off or are ignored by support.  It's difficult to be patient when the phone we paid 500€ or more for cannot actually be properly used as a phone.  It's difficult to be patient when there appears to be little to nothing being done about the issue - expecially when it appears (from our side) that SE won't even admit there is a problem.  Appearance is everything, and right now, it appears that SE is not addressing the issue.

As it is.. I'm one of many here impatiently waiting... and not honestly putting too much hope in that wait producing any results.  I'd wager that if Android 2.1 or 2.2 is rolled out in Q4 (as is suggested will happen), the in-call volume issue will remain as it is... too low to be of any practical day-to-day use.

Jeff, I ask you again and again why only reading and acting, why not responding to your customers?

THIS IS A SMARTPHONE NOT SECRET NUCLEAR SCIENCE!

What the **** is soooooooooooooooooooo difficult about saying us what the **** is going on right now?

And as I already said several times before, we don't want to be informed about every single step in development, but SE doesn't tell us anything.

No known issues, no update plans, no changelogs, nothing. You tell us "Read the product blog" but the new R2BA026 update isn't even mentioned on it. The post to the older R2BA020 was published days after the update was released.

    What is this all about?

Oh and finally Jeff, in an online board it is allowed to post multiple answers in a thread. Here it seems like when a thread is answered it gets abandoned. So I think this posting won't be answered at all...

While I know that we are all frustrated, I don't think it is fair to use foul language on the forum, it is not helping our case in anyway, in fact, I feel it will have the opposite effect!

Even writing a load of ****ck etc is stupid as everyone knows exactly what is meant by this, there is no need for it.

We wont get what we want, which seems to be answers at the moment when abuse is being thrown as Jeff and others who we seek the answers from.

I like everyone else am as frustrated by SE's lack of customer care and failure to provide the most basic features on the x10, I want answers as to when they will sort out these problems, but feel that we will get nowhere if we fail to be civil. At the end of the day Jeff is not the person who makes decisons, he is just a normal guy trying to do a job, and ok, most of us feel he isn't doing it very well, we have no right to abuse him.
