Hi,
I can just confirm that there is an issue with the WiFi connection for the Arc. As described above the WiFi connection is dropping every 1-5 minutes. After it take about 1-3 minutes untill the Arc reconnect automaticly. This problem is pretty annoying since it make it impossible to use WiFi at all! I hope SE will have a look at this and fix the problem with asap.
SE doesn't care about us ... either they have no solution or they knew the problem but they don't give us any attention.....I think we better to get HTC or IPhone...at least no useless wifi ... ![]()
I have the same Linksys and it will not work, but my D-Link DWL-2000AP+ will. So it must be some thing relatede to protocol.
One of my friends got one of the first iPhone 4 and it had the excact same issue - it was corrected through the third (!) firmware upgrade.
Disable encryption security of the router. On or enable MAC address and put your MAC address of your ARC and try. You can get MAC adress of your ARC from WIFI advanced option.
disabling the encryption security of the router or adding My ARC MAC address to the router is not a real solution because most of the time you don't have access to modifiy all routers or access points around you ... I can access my own router but I need to use my SE Xperia ARC in Cafes and other places ... would you please to suggest another solution?
be informed that most of ARC Users are having this issue..try to google or search in this fourm and you will see many people asking for soluton...is this a defect? or what !?
Where is SE support ?
Again : we are not paying money for useless staffs !!
This is still happening on my arc. I now have the wifi widget on the front screen to switch it on again. I have now tried the arc with 8 different routers both N and just G with different enryption settings so it is def. the arc and not a router issue. Very irritating and tarnishes what is essential a great phone.
am still waiting for SE Support...
bsweb,
I am a wee bit confused about your problem concerning Wi-Fi connection. If I understand you correctly, this is what happens:
1. You have a router at home which you connect to. After a "few seconds/minutes" you loose the connection.
2. Are you static in your location, or, are you roaming around and have gone out of the usable range of your router?
I use my Wi-Fi without incident on my X10, however, should I wander out of range, then I loose my signal. When I come back in range, my signal is restored.
It is not instantaneous. The process must go thru a certain amount of "connection processing", authorization, password authentication, etc.. That is overhead,
neither SE or any other bit of hardware can overcome. It is also impacted by the amount of work your processor is doing.
3. If you are not referencing a home router, and you are "pinging/moving" from location to location and loosing your signal, and after a few seconds re-connect to
another "signal/same" signal , again a time delay should be expected.
4. I have my setting the same as yours, however, I press the 'silver' button on top of the X10, and not the Home button to "wake" my phone. Just tried the Home button and it worked.
But I have not moved from my location.
In summary, ask yourself this question: Why would SE change something which works on the X10 to introduce a bug?
Perhaps, if you have "apps" loaded, try checking which one may be causing your problem.. Sounds like a User error.

Let's hope that SE will fix it in the update. The WiFi can be stable for a while, but then again it's to unstable to rely on. Whether or not I'm moving around or staying in one place, with mostly heavy WiFi usage the phone is bound to lose connection (even though it's indicating that it hasn't). However, if you wait long enough, the signal will return without having to re-enable WiFi (in my case). There is no doubt about it that it's the phone, and not the router.
Ever since I've switched to WPA PSK2 TKIP the drop outs has become less frequent, but they still remain. Having said this, it doesn't have to be the encryption in every case, but when looking at the large amount of complaints I just hope SE is able to fix it.

This is a defect in the phone and SE must work to give us a solution as fast as they can...
you can compare the signal strength with other phones (try HTC or IPhone) and I can tell you that directly you will notice the big differance also you can check the issue by letting the phone untoched for a while until the screen goes black then wake it up and you will find that the wireless is disconnected and trying to reconnect even if "Wifi Sleep Policy" option is set to "Never" looks like this option is useless or not activated as an action.
I tried my phone on 6 working wireless connection and same problem appeared on all connections. I tried many procedures like changing the securtiy encryption although this is not a real solutions but i was only trying to troubleshot the problem.
I think the problem is related to the internal wireless antenna. because the device can get signal but the strength is poor and thats why the phone keep dropping the connection and when get closer to the wirless connection you can get better signal, it is like when you remove the antenna of the radio you can get signal but not good one.
I didn't install any application. the problem appeared since openning the box.
Regards.
Got the Arc 1 week ago and the last week i've been reading and searching for solutions for wifi problem. But nothing works.
And to be honest it starts to annoy me,i use wifi alot (well not now obiously). I'm running the 3.0.A.2.181 and many do
without this problem. So is it maybe a hardware fault or a radio firmware issue?
It seems like the problems for me is most common when i want something downloaded from the Market. Small files usually
goes through but bigger ones disconnects the wifi. Maybe the wifi antenna don't get enough power to keep up the
connection?
What we need here is a answer from you SE people that you are looking into this couse the only reply in this post
does nothing ![]()
Just got my responce from SE, Just to clarify I told them I had re-flashed my phone and tried it on diffterent routers and they suggested it was my router or I should re-flash my phone so.......I emailed them right back!!
Wake up Sony Ericsson Support Team. We all really need your help. Please fix this bug asap or recall all the phones sold.
Simetimes problem is in a router. I had same problem, and its all ended then i updated my home routers firmware.
I'm glad it solved the problem for you, but I have had Android phones since the days of the G1, in that time I have not changed my router at home or the office it is only since getting the Arc I have seen issues. All my other devices (IPones, IPAD, laptops, other Android phones from different manufacturers Blackberry's etc) are all fine and work on the same routers with no issues, it has to be the phone with the problem.
